This course introduces students to the core domains of bioethics practice (clinical ethics, research ethics, organizational ethics, public health ethics, health system and policy ethics). The course employs an interactive case method to explore contemporary bioethics issues within and across these domains, to identify and characterize the ethical salient features of these issues in practice, to examine the role of bioethics theory in relation to practical bioethics problems, to explore the contribution of interdisciplinary approaches to resolving bioethics issues in practice, and to develop skills in applying ethical discernment, reasoning, and analysis toward addressing applied bioethics issues in practice.
