This course provides an in-depth exploration of qualitative research methodologies, emphasizing both theoretical foundations and practical applications. A hands-on approach will equip students with the knowledge and skills to design, conduct, analyze, and present qualitative research with rigor and ethical integrity.
Students will critically examine a range of qualitative approaches, including phenomenology, grounded theory, case study, narrative inquiry, action research, and ethnography. Through readings, discussions, and assignments, students will engage with key components of research design such as conceptual frameworks, research questions, positionality, trustworthiness, and the reporting of findings. Active learning opportunities will support the development of proficiency in core methods such as interviewing, observation, and coding-based data analysis.
The outcome for students will be a stronger foundation of qualitative research skills to apply to their future research and broader scholarly inquiry.
