In the course, students will be placed in a partnering IVF laboratory and will function as a laboratory assistant/novice embryologist over a period of 10 weeks. The student will be under the supervision of the laboratory director and/or a senior embryologist who will provide guidance and assessment of the student’s abilities and performance. The student will observe and participate as appropriate in quality control measurements and verification, record keeping, stocking, semen processing, sperm manipulation and evaluation. Due to necessary restrictions, we do not expect students to handle oocytes or embryos destined for clinical use; however, the student is expected to observe all procedures and will be given opportunity to work with discarded gametes and embryos to practice advanced skills as available in the partnering lab.
