This course is a critical and timely analysis of the current state of the nanomedicine field, how it has become incorporated into multiple disciplines, and the factors that must be considered for its future progress and successful clinical implementation. The course will begin with an introduction to nanotechnology and the unique physical properties that define nanoscale materials. The course will focus on the design considerations for nanoparticles through a discussion of how they interface with biology, which make them advantageous additions to the toolkit of agents for disease diagnosis and therapy. The course will cover sophisticated approaches for nanomedicine applications including mRNA vaccines, drug delivery, radiation, theranostics, tissue regeneration, etc. The challenges and opportunities in translation of nanomedicines to the clinic will also be covered throughout the course.
