Pediatric nutrition emerges as a critical determinant of health throughout the life cycle and trans-generationally. This course will provide an understanding of the recent advances in the field, from preconception to adolescence. Topics will include the role of nutrition in 1) growth and development (developmental origins of health and disease, growth monitoring, microbiome, malnutrition in low-, middle- and high- income countries, etc.; trials in pediatric populations); 2) pediatric disease (obesity, neurological conditions, intestinal inflammatory diseases, allergy, etc.); and 3) data science and precision pediatric nutrition (fundamentals, analysis of growth, reproducibility, transparency, equitability, data science methods in precision nutrition, etc.). Pre-clinical and clinical studies in pediatric nutrition will be discussed. Classes include lectures by professors and group discussion.
