NUR1406Y: Nurse Practitioners: Roles, Leadership, and Responsibilities

This course supports the consolidation of Nurse Practitioner (NP) professional roles and responsibilities through the integration of advanced nursing knowledge, leadership, education, advocacy, and scholarship. Students examine provincial and federal practice standards and apply College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) entry to practice competencies within complex clinical, organizational, and system contexts. Learning activities, including leadership focused modules, practice based learning (PBL), quality assurance processes, interviews with leaders, a final practicum, and an end-of-program residency, strengthen critical thinking, professional judgment, communication, and understanding of role clarity. By synthesizing and applying theoretical, regulatory, and practice based knowledge, students prepare for autonomous NP practice and the transition to entry level competence across diverse populations and health care settings.
