This course introduces the functional neuroanatomical systems in the human body and their applications to clinical practice and research in occupational therapy. Neuroanatomical structures, models, and theories regarding sensory function, motor function, cognitive-perceptual function, communication, and behavioural-emotional systems are reviewed. Students will be introduced to these functional neuroanatomical systems and theories and will learn how they relate to occupational therapy practice across the lifespan. Application of these neurological models and theories will include assessment of occupational participation and an introduction to therapeutic treatment approaches.
