PCL3500H: Fundamental Concepts in Toxicology

This course is designed for students with little to no prior background (undergraduate) coursework in toxicology. Participants will gain an appreciation for the scope and value of toxicology, while learning to apply fundamental toxicology concepts. The course will introduce relevant terminology used in academic, industrial, and regulatory settings, toxicokinetic concepts, mechanisms of toxicity, and principles of risk assessment. Both pharmacologic and environmental agents will be discussed with a focus on minimizing harm to exposed humans. Participants will demonstrate their gained knowledge and critical thinking skills when preparing their final assignment on an assigned topic.
