REH1100H: Introduction to Rehabilitation Research and Practice

This course will provide a foundational overview of the Rehabilitation Sciences field, including its role and evolution within the Canadian health care system. Students will explore diverse conceptualizations of disability and examine how social determinants of health (e.g., income, housing, systemic discrimination) shape rehabilitation needs, access, and outcomes. The course will introduce the concept of health equity and critically engage with rehabilitation practices beyond dominant Western approaches. This course will examine historical, current, and emerging issues in rehabilitation and disability, framing them in the context of challenges currently facing the field.
