The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is an area of intellectual thought and practice that facilitates advancements in pedagogical theory, the scholarly inquiry of teaching, the public dissemination of knowledge, and improvements in educational quality (Boyer, 1990). An elective course in the Doctor of Nursing (DN) program, NUR1335 establishes a strong foundation in the theory, practice, and application of SoTL to support the educational dimensions of the DN thesis project and future scholarly inquiry in nursing education. This course will equip learners with the knowledge and skill to support the development and advancement of pedagogical scholarship and to translate SoTL into scholarly teaching practice, program development, and structural changes in clinical and academic settings. NUR1335 will explore the interrelationships between SoTL and disciplinary specific knowledge in nursing. Course materials will be grounded in the translation of SoTL to a variety of contemporary topics in nursing education such as power relations, the politization of higher education, decolonializing the academy, simulation learning, and the education of clinical learners in practice settings. Finally, the course will explore professional topics related to the utilization of SoTL in career trajectories, professional development, and leadership in nursing education.
