This course introduces students to the principles and practices of experimental research in linguistics. Students will gain experience in reading experimental papers critically, identifying the connections between research questions and experiments, assessing the benefits and limitations of different experimental methodologies, and evaluating the solidity of experimental design and empirical results. The course will also introduce students to R, and review core statistical concepts and some basic tests in frequentist statistics. By the end of this course, students should be able to start putting together experiments independently.
