MST3311H: Topics in Medieval Metaphysics

A study of selected problems central to the metaphysical thought of medieval philosophers. Possible topics to be considered include essence and existence; necessity and possibility; transcendentals; causality; universals and particulars; eternity and creation; the existence and attributes of God. Readings will be chosen from a variety of Latin and Arabic authors, such as Avicenna, Averroes, Aquinas, Henry of Ghent, Duns Scotus, Ockham and others.
