NUR1169Y: Advanced Nursing Practice Scholarship: Health Systems Leadership and Administration

The goal of NUR1169 is to provide students in the final session of the MN program with opportunities to integrate previous learning and continue the analysis, synthesis, and integration of advanced theoretical principles and concepts related to advanced nursing leadership practice. NUR1169 utilizes the Canadian Nurses Association Advanced Practice Nursing: A Pan-Canadian Framework (CNA, 2019) and the Canadian College of Health Leaders LEADS Framework (2010). This course specifically provides students with opportunities to further develop and establish their knowledge, skills, and judgment related to the CNA (2019) competencies with a particular emphasis on leadership and research. Students must be very familiar with the entire CNA framework, as in this course, students activate, build, and refine the knowledge and skills that are consistent with the core competencies as outlined in the framework. In addition, the Canadian College of Health Leaders LEADS in a Caring Environment Framework (2010) denotes the skills, behaviours, abilities, and knowledge for effective leadership in the health system — and is used to frame one of the objectives for the practicum. Students are also expected to integrate knowledge from previous MN HSLA course work as well as current readings and other course activities.
