This course explores how humans plan, control, and learn voluntary actions by interpreting behavioural models with the support of sensorimotor neurophysiology. Students will study fundamental models of sensorimotor control, multisensory integration, attention, mental practice, ideomotor theory, and motor learning. Weekly student-led discussions will connect theoretical constructs with cutting-edge research, through critical evaluations and consideration for their practical applications (e.g., sport, rehabilitation, human factors, music, cognitive neuroscience). Through a focused literature review and a research proposal, students will also develop expertise in synthesizing evidence, designing experiments, and articulating novel sensorimotor research questions.
