NUR1402H: Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapeutics 2

This course builds on the foundational content of NUR1401H Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapeutics 1. It provides fundamental knowledge for entry level Nurse Practitioner (NP) practice, exploring mechanisms of altered functioning in human cells, organs, organ systems, and the whole person across the lifespan. Grounded in best evidence, the course addresses common health presentations encountered in general practice settings and introduces key pharmacological concepts, including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics. Emphasis is placed on evidence-informed therapeutic interventions, with attention to at-risk and special populations, including considerations related to the use of controlled drugs and substances. Learning is supported through case- and practice-based approaches, instructor lectures and required readings, with a focus on frequently encountered conditions and the application of the advanced practice NP framework from which to organize knowledge.
