These courses include both one-time-only offerings from visiting scientists and postdoctoral fellows, and more regular offerings from faculty members. Course may be taken more than once provided it has a different topic as indicated in the course's subtitle. The Lecture Series covers topics that are not covered in other, regular astronomy courses.

The specialized topics modular courses are the equivalent to half of a standard elective course (0.25 FCE). These courses include both one-time-only offerings from visiting scientists and postdoctoral fellows, and more regular offerings from faculty members.

The module topics will vary year to year and give students the flexibility to examine a diverse range of subjects in a compressed format. The topics offered will be based on program needs and instructor availability (within a particular area not included in other course offerings).

The modules are repeatable for credit if taken with a different topic. Individual topics will be differentiated in ACORN with a subtitle and unique lecture code. Students may take up to 4 modular courses (1.0 FCE) toward the required graduate electives.

The topic offerings are announced via email throughout the Fall and Winter sessions and may include Summer session modules.
