SWK4626H - Social Work Practice with LGBTIA Populations

This course provides critical knowledge and skills for working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and asexual (LGBTIA) individuals. This course will identify the health and mental health disparities experienced by sexual and gender minority populations and the role of discrimination on their well-being. Through the lens of practice, students will gain knowledge of identity development and resilience throughout the life course, with a particular focus on youth and emerging adults. Students will learn and utilize affirmative approaches to social work practice (e.g., cognitive-behavioral therapy, case management, group interventions). Class will consist of lecture and student discussion, role-plays, and simulation-based learning.

SWK4627H - Eating Disorders Assessment and Treatment

This course will provide an in-depth investigation of the assessment and treatment of eating disorders for social workers. Students will gain a deeper understanding of the theoretical and etiological underpinnings of the development and maintenance of eating disorders, as well as learn and practice assessment techniques and evidence-based interventions. Social work students will leave the course with the understanding and skills to identify and treat.
