This course provides hands-on practical training in surgical pathology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. Students will develop skills in specimen preparation, orientation, inking, dissection, gross examination, and tissue sampling under the supervision of certified pathologist assistants and clinical faculty. The course covers gynecologic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck, breast, and skin specimens, with additional training in frozen section service and intraoperative consultation specimens. Trainees will gain experience in both grossing and frozen section/specimen preparation, with emphasis on the importance of gross examination, section submission, and specimen handling in generating accurate pathology reports and supporting clinical decision-making.
