This course provides hands-on practical training in surgical pathology at one of three hospital sites: North York General Hospital, Lakeridge Health or Mackenzie Health – Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Students will develop practical skills in specimen orientation, inking, dissection, gross examination, and tissue sampling under the supervision of certified pathologist assistants and clinical faculty. The course covers a variety of surgical specimens, including gynecologic, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, head and neck, breast, and skin specimens. Emphasis is placed on the importance of gross examination and section submission in generating comprehensive pathology reports that support diagnosis and clinical management.
